Why .SEO should be a gTLD

Generic top-level domain, What’s that? Need answers for this? You’re at the place!

Lately, generic domain names have started receiving attention from the audience!
Why is that? Because it’s amazing!
Starting with the basic questions related to generic top level domains

What is TLD and gTLD?

TLD is top level domain and gTLDs stands for Generic Top-Level Domains.
Example: hooli.xyz is a gTLD. (Yaya, I’m a Silicon Valley fan. Duh!)
It is the extension used at the end of every domain name, but this one is GENERIC.
A few examples are .accountant .call .xin etc.

gTLDs Effect on SEO

Google officially declared that new gTLDs would be treated the same as other TLDs.

Q: Will a .BRAND TLD be given any more or less weight than a .com?
A: No. Those TLDs will be treated the same as a other gTLDs. They will require the same geo targeting settings and configuration, and they won’t have more weight or influence in the way we crawl, index, or rank URLs. Source

Yes! Having a gTLD won’t affect your SEO at all. In fact, It serves as a classification for a brand/Tool/Organisation.

Benefits of gTLD

  1. Easy to remember (If you purchase a good domain with a relevant generic domain extension)
  2. Make it clear to your audience what the website is all about.

Imagine a freelancer’s name followed by .SEO extension can be a good way for freelancers to be specific about their niche.

Great insight Rahman! This is very interesting. But I believe .com is easier to remember and it’s the best for SEO.

      Hi Gale,
I don’t think .com or any other extension is easy or hard to remember.
Its just how catchy you domain is. In fact using catchy extensions can make it easier for people to remember your domain.
